Federal Cafe Barcelona

The Federal Cafe was a great find in Barcelona, and my go to spot for a great coffee and breakfast. Owned by Australians, but staffed by locals, this place serves up great coffee and amazing breakfast eats bringing a foreign twist to local ingredients.

Located near the Mercat de Sant Antoni near the Poble Sec Metro stop is either a short train ride or walk away from Las Ramblas, and is a nice departure from the bustling insanity of the main tourist areas. While the crowd here is a mix of tourist and locals, the food and exceptionally designed space make up for any lack of authenticity. Besides, Barcelona is not the city to come to for a distinctly Spanish experience. This is a creative and lively city made up of people from the world, and places like Federal are part of a distinctly Barcelona experience.

Named for a small town in Northern New South Wales, Australia, Federal brings a sense of community and airy space to its three stories on the corner of a developing neighbourhood. They're open for coffee, breakfast, lunch/brunch throughout the week, and open late on Friday and Saturday night.
