Toronto is experiencing a Ramenaissance as a proliferation of noodle shops has popped up all over the city. Whether it is attributed to the arrival of Momofuku and David Chang or not, it has certainly suited this traveller just fine.
As a student of Ramenology, my studies began around Y2K in the city of Fukuoka, Japan and I have been an avid learner ever since. My enthusiasm for good ramen is boundless, so imagine my delight when I discovered that there was a Hokkaido style ramen joint a block away from my otherwise boring business hotel near Dundas Square.
Over the coming week I would eat ramen of all sorts for lunch almost every day, including the coveted Toroniku ramen, which is generously comprised of traditional fatty pork broth and thin slices of pork jowl. If you're into pork, this place is your jam.
I can't say that this is the best ramen shop in Toronto, as I haven't been to all of them, but I think it is certainly a very good one. The scores of Japanese students eating here are presumably casting their vote as well.
Overall I rate Ramen Santouka takusan oishii.
